I Peter 2:9—But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
Sin is dark. It takes us to dark places, darkens our hearts and souls, and makes us do “dark” things. Sin causes us to hide out in the shadows. Sin covers everything in our lives like an oil spill. It’s thick, dirty, and binds us up. Sin also keeps us ignorant of the truth of God. As long as we remain in the ignorance of our sin, the devil has a playground to roam free in. He is the “prince of darkness,” after all.
That is why salvation is so important. It accomplishes many things in our lives. The blood of Jesus acts like soap and water to our sin-covered hearts. It cleanses the dark and dirty places. Jesus’ blood counteracts the effects of sin. The dark of night becomes the light of day in a moment!
Just as important, the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ also illuminates the darkness of ignorance. John 8:32 says, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Knowledge is power. Satan knows this. He seeks to keep the world ignorant so that he can maintain the facade of control. Once we gain access to the things of God and realize the authority we have over him, the more afraid Satan becomes. Satan knows full well that when Christians “get it,” we become a force to be reckoned with!
Even everyday screw-ups like you and I can walk into our destinies when we walk out of darkness.
Prayer for Today:
I thank You that You have called me out. I thank You that I am no longer subject to the power of darkness. I thank You that I am a royal priesthood and a holy nation. I thank You for knowledge of who I am in You. Help me walk in that knowledge. Help me walk in the light.
Being called from darkness means you are to be separate. Live a life that makes people notice that you have something different than what they have. Let the love of God flow straight to the hearts of men.
