No Condemnation

Romans 8:1—There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

We are forgiven! Let’s get it through our thick skulls! Satan uses the guilt and shame we felt during our lives of sin against us even after we have been set free. It’s one of the most effective tricks he has up his sleeve. See, the problem is this: our souls have been saved and we are new creations. Our minds are made new as well. However, we have to continually renew our minds. What is a functioning part of the mind? You guessed it—the memory. Unfortunately, when it comes to the sins of the past, our minds are like those of elephants. We never seem to forget.

God is clear in His word, when He promises to launch our sins into the abyss—“You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea” (Micah 7:19b). God throws our sins so far away that we will never see them again. Psalm 103:12 puts it like this: “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” How far is the east from the west? Infinitely far!

God doesn’t simply forgive our sins. He removes them completely. They are gone! When God looks at us, all He sees is the blood of Jesus! How can God forget all that junk? He chooses to. It’s a choice for us as well. The devil cannot remind us of a past we don’t remember.

Even everyday screw-ups like you and I can render the schemes of the enemy ineffective, if we’ll just lose our memories.

Prayer for Today:

Jesus,

I know I used to be a sinner. I also know You have forgiven me. The devil knows that too. He’s trying to make me feel guilty for all the times I made mistakes back then. Help me to be strong enough to forget. Help me to remember that You chose to forget. Give me the grace to see myself the way You do—forgiven. Thank You for setting me free from the bondage of sin so that I can look forward to the future. Thank You for giving me victory over condemnation.

Amen

Daily Objective:

The past is the past. Leave it there. Choose today to forget it.
